The Betrayal of the Church is the alarming story of how the leaders of the mainline denominations have abandoned the gospel in favor of the religious and political ideology of the Left. Its message of apostasy and the possibility of renewal in the mainline churches is of vital concern to every Christian in America.
United Methodists decline, signs of it are everywhere, a staggering loss of membership, the erosion of the Sunday school, a pervasive sense that the church is not meetng the spiritual needs of people. What can be done? "Rekindling the Flame" offers specific, workable strategies for United Methodist specific, workable strategies for United Methodist resurgency. William H. Willimon and Robert L. Wilson take a hard look at a church in crisis and show clergy, church professionals and laypeople exactly what they must do to get the church moving again.

"Beyond the Point of No Return"
By Calvin Johnson, D.D.

Beyond the Point of No Return by Calvin Johnson, D.D. is privately published by the author. There is good reason for this because it is a polemic that takes to task the state of a modern mainline denomination. Calvin is a United Methodist minister, former Bible college president and evangelist who treasures his Wesleyan roots. It all begins with what he calls biblical betrayal; this is followed by theological treachery. When this has happened evangelism is eliminated, Christian education perverted, the youth are deceived, the holy profaned, and the people of the church are seen as objects to serve the system. Having served at some highest levels of the United Methodist Church, I can attest to the veracity of his observations. These things have long needed saying. It is small wonder that he had trouble getting it published. The people at Good News have been saying these things piecemeal for years, but no one has put it together like Calvin has. If you are dissatisfied with the direction your denomination is going you should read this book.
